Where is Victoria?Victoria is located on the Southern tip of Vancouver Island, which is on the far West Coast of Canada. (Geographic location: West longitude: 123.4 degrees. North latitude: 48.5 degrees.) Other cities within a few minutes of the same latitude include; Paris, France; Munich, Germany; Uzhgorod, Ukraine; and Volgograd, Russia. Victoria is just one degree further west than San Francisco. |

Vancouver Island is the largest Island on the West Coast of the Americas. It stretches 460 km end to end and is 80 km across at its widest. Vancouver Island is world-renowned as a location for whale-watching, salmon fishing, diving, and
other marine recreation. It is also home to
Mount Washington Alpine Resort;
Strathcona Provincial Park which covers 122,500 hectares and includes one of the highest waterfalls in Canada
plus the highest point on Vancouver Island; and
Pacific Rim National Park Reserve which includes the West Coast Trail and miles of coastal beaches.

About the Region:The City of Victoria covers the downtown core, plus the residential areas of Fairfield, James Bay, Vic West and Fernwood. Greater Victoria encompases the municipalities of Esquimalt, Oak Bay, and Saanich in addition to the City of Victoria. Further out are the West Shore communities of View Royal, Colwood, Langford, Metchosin and the Highlands. To the North of Greater Victoria are the Penninsula Districts of Central Saanich, North Saanich (including Brentwood Bay) and the town of Sidney. All of these districts, municipalities, towns and the City Victoria plus the Juan De Fuca Electora Area and the Southern Gulf Islands are included in the Capital Regional District (CRD) which oversees many regional activites such as water supply, recycling, and animal control.
