Pink Bicycle

After listening to friends rave about the food here, we had to give it a shot. Rather than dine-in (the service reportedly varies from indifferent to rude -- and this from people who rave about the food) we opted to order our meals to go.

Between us we decided to try the Pink Bike Cheese burger and the Blue Cheese Lamb burger, opting for the onion rings and truffle fries rather than the standard Kennebec fries. As soon as the staff handed us our order we were hit with a wall of truffle oil but reserved judgement until we'd tasted everything.

Romano's Macaroni Grill

If the idea of someone wandering by your table singing opera sounds as annoying to you as it is to me, then you should steer clear of this overpriced pretentious chain restaurant. The theme is Italian, the food is good but the Chad-factor gets under my skin (try Pagliacci's, San Remo's or Il Terrazzo for better). 3195 Douglas (at Mayfair Mall) [restaurant website]

Apple Tree Family Restaurant

The Apple Tree Family Restaurant has been serving tired shoppers, seniors and families from its corner location in Hillside Mall for years. The decor has not been updated since the late 1980s and the menu lacks any modern touches but this doesn't matter to most of the regulars.

abc Country Restaurant

Part of a larger chain, abc Country Restaurants are in the same league as Denny's and the Pantry for the quality and variety of food served, popular with seniors and families because the food is inexpensive and somewhat plain; there are separate menus for seniors and children; kids also get a fun-pack that includes a booklet, crayons and a toy.
